[report]🔬✨ This weekend, yCSMS packed up our pocket microscopes and headed to the Veletrh vědy (Science Fair) — and what a fantastic microscopic adventure it was! ![]()
Visitors of all ages stopped by to take a closer look at tiny marvels like a spider’s leg, a wasp’s wing, a pollen grain, or the texture of tree bark. It turns out, even the most ordinary insect wing can look like a piece of abstract art under the lens. To test everyone’s newly gained scientific observation skills, we prepared a fun microscopy quiz. Successful participants earned a diploma and could pick a reward, from a microscopy-themed memory game, to stickers and badges with SEM images we’ve prepared especially for the occasion. Some kids declared they want to be scientists when they grow up. Some adults admitted they might finally understand how pollen looks under an electron microscope. Both outcomes: absolute wins in our book. Big thanks to everyone who stopped by to zoom in with us! 📸🔍 #microscopy #ScienceFair #VeletrhVědy #yCSMS #SEMfun #SEM #frommicrontoMega

yCSMS at MICROSCOPY 2025 – Thank You! 🔬✨![]()
We spent amazing few days in Liberec at the annual MICROSCOPY 2025 conference organized by the Czechoslovak Microscopy Society from May 19 to 21, and we’re still processing the energy it gave us! 💥
This year, Young Microscopists of the Czechoslovak Microscopy Society (yCSMS) brought a much broader and more ambitious program—and it was a big success! We’re incredibly grateful to everyone who supported us, participated (actively or passively 🙃), and to the Czechoslovak Microscopy Society for giving us space and trust. 💛
Here’s a quick recap of our activities:
🍻 Pre-conference Meet-up
We unofficially kicked things off with a cozy dinner and drinks with our board and some of the yCSMS members (thanks for joining!) — just catching up before the action started!
🧠 Conference Day 1 (May 19):
Our president opened with a short talk in the "News in Microscopy" session, where we shared our past work and our plans. Later, we set up our Photobooth at the Welcome Reception, which stayed up all conference long—and let’s just say: the photos were legendary. 📸 (We would be happy to see yours in the comments, if you want to share!)
🎲 Conference Day 2:
We spiced up the Conference Dinner with our social game "Find Your Scientific Soulmate"—where over 30 participants played matchmaker with scientific concepts and personas. It was fun, educational, and the perfect social icebreaker. 🧪💘(We could also mention the participation of young microscopists in the afterparty and boosting the dancing mood by choosing a few songs. 😉🤘)
🚀 Conference Day 3 – LiftOff Session:
Bright and early (yes, even after the party 🎉), we hosted "LiftOff: Launching Early Careers in Microscopy and Science". Young researchers shared their work (big thumbs up, you were all amazing and are now forever included in the history of LiftOff!), and then we were honored to hear from Vladimíra Petráková (J. Heyrovsky Institute of Physical Chemistry), who gave a moving, honest talk about navigating a scientific career and family life through not always friendly conditions. Huge thanks to her and the wonderful audience who showed up!
We're feeling inspired, connected, and full of ideas. This was our best year yet—and we're just getting started.
📢 Stay tuned: follow us for updates and upcoming events!

We are not finished with our MICROSCOPY 2025 hype yet! It is time to announce our last part of the program - our own conference section🥹![]()
🚀LiftOff - Launching Early Careers in Microscopy and Science 🚀![]()
Wednesday 9:00 - 10:00![]()
Featuring 3 short scientific talks by our own members and 1 special talk by a great scientist with a very wide range of focus, both in the lab and in her free time - Doc. Ing. Vladimíra Petráková, Ph..D of the J. Heyrovsky Institute of Physical Chemistry. She will give us an insight into the ups and downs in pursuing a scientific career while having a family and hobbies. We invite you to join us also for the following open discussion - you can ask questions maybe a little more personal than is usual at a conference.![]()
PS: We know that 9 AM is early, especially after a conference dinner. BUT we also know that our members and followers can tighten up and manage both party and early morning presentations. There will be a small gift for those who manage to come (and party).

Are you excited about our program at MICROSCOPY 2025? Maybe not yet, but you will be after you find out about this one:![]()
You can find your scientific soulmate! On Tuesday, during (or after) the gala dinner, you can become one of the famous people who shaped microscopy (and science in general), and search for your scientific partner in crime. ![]()
The rules are simple: draw one card with basic information about you and your partner, clip a provided pin visibly on your clothes (this marks that you are in the game), and then mingle and ask thoughtfully around until you find the right person! The successfully reunited pairs can get a drink on us (or a cute badge). ![]()
Lets make gala dinners fun again! 🥳🥸
